New Campaign Launched to Support Survivors of Serious Sexual Assault in Bristol

A new campaign called “We’re Here” has been launched in Bristol to raise awareness of the vital support services available to survivors of sexual assaults. Funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Avon and Somerset and NHS England, the campaign is a collaborative effort to ensure survivors know where to turn for expert care and support.

The campaign is supported by Bristol City Council, the University of Bristol and Bristol Students’ Union, the University of the West of England (UWE) and UWE Students’ Union, and three leading local support services who provide free, independent, and confidential support:

  • The Bridge: A Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) providing medical care, forensic services, and crisis support in a safe and confidential environment.
  • Safe Link: Providing supporting including Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) who offer practical and emotional support to survivors of all ages as they navigate the criminal justice system and recovery.
  • SARSAS: A specialist service offering counselling, group work, and trauma-informed support for survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody said:

“One of my key priorities is ensuring that victim-survivors have access to high-quality, expert support and resources. Survivors may need help at different times and in different ways, and I want them to know they do not have to face this alone. Preventing these crimes by addressing perpetrator behaviour is essential, but while we work to reduce and prevent this harm, I will never lose sight of the victim-survivors who have already been affected. Bristol has a strong and trusted network of trauma-informed care, and this campaign will ensure that more people are aware of these services and how to access them.”

The campaign will highlight the availability of confidential, specialist support through city-wide networks, social media, and outreach efforts across Bristol.

Nicola Shannon, Service Manager at The Bridge, said:

“At the Bridge, we see first-hand the courage it takes for survivors of sexual assault to seek help, and we are proud to be part of this campaign to ensure they know support is always available. Our team provides expert, trauma-informed care, including medical and forensic services, alongside a safe and compassionate space where survivors can begin their recovery. This campaign is a crucial step in raising awareness and helping people take their first steps towards healing, whether or not they choose to involve the police.”

This initiative underscores the commitment of all involved to supporting survivors, fostering safer communities, and ensuring everyone in Bristol knows how to access expert care when it’s needed most.
