Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody Reacts to ‘Ronan’s Law’ Announcement

I welcome the announcement of ‘Ronan’s Law’ as an important step in tackling knife crime. Strengthening regulations on online knife sales cracks down on one of the pathways by which dangerous knives reach our streets.

Behind the statistics of knife crime are real families and communities devastated by loss or injury of loved ones. This law honours those lives and sends a clear message about the government’s commitment to the urgent action required.

However, as important as these measures are, we know that addressing these issues also requires a long-term, collective effort from all of us. That’s why tackling serious youth violence is a key priority in my Police and Crime Plan. I will continue to hold the police to account for their response to knife crime, whilst working with partners in health, education, and grassroots organisations to deliver prevention programmes that divert young people from violence.

Prevention is about creating opportunities for young people, offering them hope and a positive future. By providing role models, safe spaces, and by listening to their voices, we can empower young people to make safer choices.
