A new edition of the Police National Honours Handbook is launched

The third edition of the Police National Honours Handbook – A Complete Guide to Nomination and Awards, has been launched to assist officers and police staff submitting nominations for their colleagues to be  considered  for an Honour or Award. The guide is believed to be the only one of its kind to be produced and distributed on a national level within policing.

The new guide includes information on how to nominate people for both Gallantry awards and National Honours and has been designed by Inspector Stuart King from Avon and Somerset Police, to assist police officers and staff across the UK in making nominations for policing colleagues, who they consider would be worthy recipients.

The guide includes a more simplified step-by-step approach in making a nomination and an understanding of what awards exist.

The earlier editions of the separate gallantry and national honours guides have already been well used, resulting in an increase in lower ranked officers and staff receiving national recognition.

Inspector Stuart King, who designed and created the guide, said:

“It has been a privilege to produce ‘The Police National Honours Handbook’ and its earlier editions. I am delighted to hear of the assistance it has already provided in ensuring colleagues from across the UK are receiving the recognition they so rightly deserve.

“I hope the latest, refined and combined guide will be even more helpful when making nominations.”

Police and Crime Commissioner, Clare Moody said:

“In a world that often presents unforeseen challenges and dangers, our police service stands as a pillar of strength and safety for our communities.

“The Police National Honours Handbook is a resource for officers and staff to use to make sure the remarkable acts of bravery, commitment, and service by our police officers and police staff receive the recognition they deserve.”
