Police and Crime Commissioner supports Road Safety Week 2024
The annual Road Safety Week is designed to raise awareness and share important road safety messages.
It is also a chance to remember people affected by road death and injury. The charity ‘Brake’ organises this national week of action, and it is their biggest road safety campaign. The charity supports people bereaved and seriously injured by road crashes, helps people be ‘community champions’ for safe and healthy mobility and campaigns for safe streets and the rights of road victims.
This year, Brake are revealing stories behind the numbers and calling for the highest standard of care for every road victim. You can read about it here.
Throughout this week, we will be raising awareness of this important campaign, as well as sharing vital messages such as the fatal five.
Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Clare Moody is out with Community Speed Watch (CSW) volunteers across Avon and Somerset. CSW volunteers monitor the speed of a vehicle and raise awareness of the risks of driving too fast. If someone were to be caught speeding by the CSW teams, they would be sent a warning letter.
Later in the week, we will also be sharing a guest blog from a dedicated CSW team in Somerset.
PCC Clare Moody said:
“On average, five people die every day on the road in the UK and 80 are seriously injured. These are not mere numbers; each represents a family forever changed by the trauma of a road accident. This week, we not only remember those lost but stand in solidarity with every family affected.
“As your Police and Crime Commissioner, I am committed to supporting the powerful aims of Road Safety Week. This week, I invite everyone in Avon and Somerset to get involved, whether by sharing your story, joining an event, or supporting the efforts of organisations like Brake. Let us embrace these opportunities to listen, to learn, and to come together in making our communities safer for everyone.”
