Police funding

Each year, the PCC is responsible for setting the amount of money you contribute to local police services through your council tax bill – this is known as the police ‘precept’.

Police funding is made up of a mix of a Government grant (57%) and from local taxation (43%), through the policing element of your council tax bill.

Every year the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has to decide the level of the council tax element, known as the Police Precept.

This year, on the 3rd Feb, the PCC has set the percept annual increase of £15.00 for an average B and D. The proposed  increase equates to approximately £1.25 per month.

Your PCC, Clare Moody sets police funding to deliver against her Police and Crime Plan, that has 5 priorities:

  1. Strengthen Neighbourhood Policing
  1. Reduce Violent Crime – with a specific focus on (a) Male Violence Against Women and Girls (MVAWG) and (b) serious youth violence
  1. Prevent Crime
  1. Support Victims
  1. Improve Standards of Policing
