Welcoming new detectives at celebratory graduation ceremony

This week, PCC Clare Moody attended a ceremony for newly qualified Avon and Somerset Police detectives. Clare gave a speech to the graduating detectives saying what a great privilege it was to attend and celebrate each individual’s incredible achievement.
Clare outlined that those graduating have chosen a path that is both demanding and rewarding, a job where they can truly make a difference. As detectives, they will make sure people receive the justice they deserve, supporting people at times of great need and vulnerability, to investigate crimes and build solid cases.
Each individual will have shown great tenacity and dedication to get to where they are today, often sifting through every detail they can find to catch those who are dangerous to our communities.
Clare continued, “The work of a detective is vital to the criminal justice system we rely on, to the principles of truth and fairness we all hold true.
“It is also important to recognise that carrying out the role of a detective can have a significant impact on your well-being. The challenges of the work you do should never be faced alone. Please make use of the support available. Ensuring your own well-being will help you continue to do this vital work in the long term.
“As you continue on your career path, you will have opportunities to stretch yourselves further, to grow, and to have a profound impact on people’s lives. I am genuinely excited to see what you will achieve.
“Congratulations to each of you. Your commitment and dedication to the public and all our communities is deeply appreciated.
“I wish you all the very best of luck in your detective career. May you continue to serve with honour, protect with courage, and respect with integrity.”
The detectives graduating will have been on different schemes. One of those schemes is known as the Detective Degree Holder Entry Programme | Avon and Somerset Police
